CEHD’s Ft. Knox Office Now Offers CLEP Exams

University of Louisville at Fort Knox now administers CLEP computer-based examinations to service members. Starting March 3, 2008, military service members will have access to all 34 examinations. The exams are free to military service members and active duty Guard and Reserve personnel.

CLEP testing is also available to civilians who are interested in taking CLEP exams, but those candidates are responsible for paying the exam and administration fee (spouses and civilian employees of the Guard and Reserves are eligible for funded exams).

The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) is a credit-by-examination program sponsored by the College Board, which gives service members the opportunity to earn college credit by earning qualifying scores on exams. The 90-minute, computer-based exams are offered in subjects ranging from U.S. History, Spanish and College Algebra. Students receive their scores immediately upon completion of the exam (except for English Composition with Essay exam).

CLEP exams also offer a low-cost method for earning college credit. Students can also demonstrate their knowledge in a wide array of subjects generally taught in the first two years of college.

“CLEP is one of the best programs I’ve ever come across in education. In only two months I received 15 credits toward my degree through CLEP. It has saved me money, but more importantly, I haven’t had to sit in class for weeks to earn those credits,” said Jackson Gillett, a former Marine from Portland, Oregon. “My advice is to take advantage of CLEP whether you are on active duty or a veteran like me.”

The UofL Ft. Knox office is a National Test Center and the only testing center at Fort Knox. They are also administering the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Support (DANTES) subject standardized tests (DSST). The University does not award credit for DSST’s passing scores but they can be used for specialization credit in the B.S. Workforce Leadership program.
