Dr. Jill Adelson, assistant professor in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, Counseling and College Student Personnel, has been selected as the 2013 Nystrand-Offutt Scholar. Dr. Adelson will be collaborating with Dr. Maggie McGatha, associate professor in the Department of Middle and Secondary Education, on a study titled, “Cognitive Coaching and Gifted Learners: Examining Effects on Student Achievement and Academic Self-Concept.”
The Nystrand-Offutt Scholar award is made possible through the generous support of Nancy and George Stablein through their gift of the Offutt Funds, which is named for Nancy’s parents. Begun in 2009, the initiative provides year-long support for a research project of a tenure-track faculty member.
Previous Nystrand-Offutt Scholars include Dr. Kristi King (Department of Health and Sport Sciences), Dr. Monica Delano (Department of Special Education), and Dr. Shelley Thomas (Department of Middle and Secondary Education).
