In March 2006, the CEHD Advising Center and Center for Economic Education hosted their first financial literacy activity for CEHD students called “Financial Fiesta.” The program included information on financial aid, scholarships, evaluating your credit score, budgeting, Oprah’s debt diet and more.
Several community partners such as the Federal Reserve St. Louis Branch, the Better Business Bureau, Associated Insurance Services and BB&T Bank and Trust volunteered their time with the program.
In September 2006, the CEHD Advising Center and Center for Economic Education combined resources with the U of L REACH Center, Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corp., and other units at the university to host a campus-wide Financial Fiesta. Nearly 1,000 students stopped by the event.
Sharon Kerrick, director for the CEE, stated that they consider it their mission to continue educating students about financial literacy and the support from their community partners is key in making these events such a success.
