CEHD NOW OFFERS BCBA-D
The CEHD now offers an approved course sequence that will provide students the opportunity to sit for the national boards in behavior analysis certification. The Board Certified Behavior Analyst, (BCBA), is a certification that allows individuals to work in a variety of fields, from education to mental health, to improve the lives of a variety of clients.

MSHROD PROGRAM GETS ANOTHER NOD OF APPROVAL
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has confirmed that the CEHD’s Master of Science in Human Resource Education (MSHROD) aligns with the SHRM human resource curriculum guidelines. The certificate timeframe is June 2012 – December 2014, after which the program must be re-evaluated for continued certification. SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. The Society represents more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries.

ECPY COUNSELING PROGRAM REACCREDITED
The Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, Counseling, and College Student Personnel (ECPY) is proud to announce that the Counseling Psychology program has been reaccredited for another five years. The next review is scheduled for 2017.

ECPY ART THERAPY PROGRAM RECEIVES AATA APPROVAL
ECPY’s Master of Education in Counseling and Personnel Services, Concentration in Art Therapy, has received continued seven year approval from the Education Program Approval Board (EPAB) of the American Art Therapy Association Inc., (AATA). Approval status of art therapy programs is published in the AATA Newsletter and the AATA Education List.

HSS PROGRAM RECEIVES COAES ACCREDITATION
Exercise Physiology
The Health and Sports Sciences (HSS) Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and the Master of Science in Exercise Physiology programs have been awarded accreditation by the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (COAES) of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). In the letter granting accreditation, the review committee recognized the program’s “substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation Standards” and commended program faculty for their commitment to continuous quality improvement in education. The programs will undergo their next continuing accreditation review in 2017.

Exercise Physiology Lab Site of $37 Million Study
The Exercise Physiology Lab in Crawford Gym is one of 82 sites in the U.S. and Canada participating in the $37 million, six-year, 2,331 patient trial titled, “The Heart Failure and a Controlled Trial Investigating Outcomes of Exercise Training” (HF-ACTION). The study, which is sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health, is the first large-scale prospective trial designed to determine whether exercise helps heart failure patients live longer and reduces the time they spend in hospitals.

SPAD ACCREDITED BY COSMA
The CEHD’s Sports Administration Program (SPAD) has officially been awarded accreditation from the Commission on Sport Management Accrediation (COSMA). The University of Louisville now offers three COSMA-accredited degree programs in sport administration–B.S. in Sport Administration, M.S. in Sport Administration, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Develop, a Sport Administration specialty. This is a tremendous accomplishment for the SPAD program. The CEHD and University are proud to recognize the faculty and staff who worked so hard to achieve this goal.

NEW PROGRAMS IN THE CEHD
Gifted and Talented Endorsement
The Gifted and Talented Endorsement is offered by the Teaching and Learning Department. It is a 12-hour endorsement and focuses on the nature and needs of gifted, talented, and creative children in P-12 classrooms. It also provides ways to increase gifted behaviors in a greater number of children than those already identified. 
The Gifted and Talented endorsement may be completed as part of the Master of Education in Teacher Leadership, a Rank I program, or as a Standalone endorsement.

Elementary Mathematics Specialist P-5 Endorsement
The Elementary Mathematics Specialist P-5 Endorsement is offered by the Teaching and Learning Department. It is a 15-hour endorsement and is designed to provide additional depth of knowledge beyond the elementary preparation program. The Mathematics Specialist P-5 Endorsement may be completed as part of the Master of Education in Teacher Leadership, a Rank I program, or as a standalone endorsement. The Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) approved the Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education’s Elementary Math Specialist (P-5) Endorsement program on Monday, August 6.

M.Ed. in Literacy with Literacy Specialist P-12 Endorsement
The M.Ed. in Literacy with Literacy Specialist P-12 Endorsement is offered by the Teaching and Learning Department. It is a 36-hour program and is designed for teachers who wish to be literacy specialists in their districts. The Literacy Specialist endorsement may be completed ONLY through the Master of Education in Literacy.

NYSTRAND CENTER CELEBRATES 25th ANNIVERSARY
This past summer, the Nystrand Center of Excellence in Education celebrated 25 years of collaboration with the University, the CEHD, our community and state, and national partners. Through these partnerships, the Nystrand Center has worked to prepare excellent teachers, supported the continuing professional development of teachers and administrators, and transformed schools for the purpose of helping students achieve academic success.
